I’ve always loved to draw, and am a political junkie, so political cartoons are a natural fit. I started in high school, continued in college, and then along came jobs, marriage, kids, and all my drawing fell by the wayside. A few years ago, I picked up my pens again and started to try and resurrect my skills, doing landscapes and portraits and generally trying to find my style. And then the 2016 election happened, and I found a new motivation to pick up the “ungentlemanly art” again.
I am a software engineer by day, so this is strictly a hobby. It’s very different than my more traditional drawings, because the cartoons have to be topical and current, and generally churned out pretty quickly. I’m still exploring different styles and techniques, but I generally work with a mix of dip pens, brushes, and Copic multiliner pens. All the coloring is done digitally, using GIMP.
