Trump seems determined to take the worst towns in the Rust Belt, combine them with the highest crime areas in our cities, and present that as a picture of what America is really like. Either he doesn’t get out much, doesn’t believe the evidence of an economic recovery, or needs to build a bogey man so he can portray himself as the savior. I’ll go with the latter.

I think capitalism needs to be tempered with a good bit of socialism in order to work well. But Trump would never admit that, nor would most Republicans. It’s the hypocrisy that sticks in my craw. And while I’m happy for these people to retain their livelihood, this kind of move is not a long-term solution to the structural issues in our economy.

With this, I don’t mean to say that Trump is a neo-Nazi or a white supremacist, but that his rhetoric and his elevation of Steve Bannon has both given those groups some legitimacy and downplayed their toxicity and danger.
